Instead of writing another article, he eventually turned to the drawing board — and xROVER was born: a multifunctional stroller that now takes children and adults to places an ordinary mobility aid cannot reach.
From the writing desk to the drawing board
The story behind xROVER began in 2010 — not on a factory floor, but in an editorial office. Jiří Vávra, founder of Volter, worked in sport as a journalist, writing about performance, training and people for whom movement meant everything. Among them, however, he repeatedly encountered a situation that would not leave him alone: what happens to an athlete when an injury or serious illness suddenly puts an end to their sporting life? How do they keep moving when the paths they once followed are no longer open to them?
He could not find an answer on the market, so he decided to create one himself. The journalist became a designer, and the first xROVER was built around specific needs — not as a generic aid for an unspecified user, but as a solution for someone who wanted to keep living an active life.
Development did not stop there. As experience grew and more users shared their stories, the range expanded. A single stroller evolved into a truly multifunctional system for year-round use, serving both children and adults.
„I did not want injury or illness to mean the end of an active life. xROVER was developed for real people and their families — and that is still its purpose."
— Jiří Vávra, founder of Volter
What xROVER can do today
Today, xROVER brings together the features of a medical stroller, an all-terrain stroller and a bicycle trailer in one product. It is always operated by an accompanying person — a parent, carer or therapist. Depending on the equipment chosen, it transforms from a stroller for a leisurely walk into a stable all-terrain companion or a bicycle trailer. It is made in several sizes, for children through to adults.
This is more than an ordinary mobility aid. xROVER is a certified medical device registered in the European EUDAMED database and meets the strict requirements of the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Today, the strollers serve users across much of Europe and overseas — in the USA, Canada and Australia.
Who it helps, and where
xROVER has a place wherever the desire to get outdoors meets limited mobility. It brings shared outings back to families of children with cerebral palsy, muscular conditions or injuries. In rehabilitation facilities, day centres and social care services, it broadens the possibilities for activities and recreation. It also helps older people and those with very severe health limitations — including people who spend most of their time in bed and for whom getting outdoors would otherwise be difficult.
One stroller, many possibilities
What xROVER can do depends on the configuration you choose:
- everyday walks through town and leisurely strolls in the park,
- trips into nature and hikes over more demanding terrain that an ordinary mobility aid cannot handle,
- cycling trips — attach the stroller to a bicycle and the whole family can head out together,
- running and inline skating, with the accompanying person pushing the stroller ahead of them,
- winter outings with heated covers and accessories.
One product can cover a whole range of activities across the seasons — just as its creator intended from the outset.

Stability and a personal fit
An outing into the countryside must, above all, be safe. A robust frame and a low centre of gravity keep xROVER stable on uneven ground and at higher speeds, helping both the accompanying person and the user feel secure. An individual fit matters just as much: xROVER adapts to the person — from its size and positioning features to supports, restraints and accessories for specific conditions. The result is an aid that does not merely come close to fitting, but meets the needs of its user precisely.
Five years of cycling therapy in Most
Cooperation with the Municipal Social Services Administration in Most (MSSS) shows the value of this approach. Now in its fifth year, the organisation’s cycling therapy project uses specialist bicycle trailers to take people with very severe health limitations on outings, including people who are permanently confined to bed. This is an environment in which xROVER naturally belongs — broadening the range of terrain and activities that can be made accessible, and offering a solution for children and adults alike.
„Five years of practical experience have confirmed that activities like these really make a difference. It is not just about getting from one place to another, but about the opportunity to share experiences with family or friends again."
— Luboš Trojna, Director of MSSS in Most
